Nathan Pingel named Vice President

Nathan Pingel has been named Vice President of David Ford Consulting Engineers Inc.. Pingel, who has been with the firm since 2000, specializes in modeling applications in hydrologic and hydraulic engineering, water resource management, and flood economics and risk analyses.Pingel is an active member of civil engineering and floodplain management professional organizations. He has published articles in professional journals of those organizations and presented papers at engineering and floodplain management conferences.

Joe DeVries of David Ford Consulting Engineers received a Special Recognition Award on Friday, June 23, 2006 at the 2006, California Extreme Precipitation Symposium. "This award is presented in recognition of your lifetime of service as a teacher, advisor, and mentor to your colleagues who work to minimize the adverse impacts of extreme precipitation in California. We honor your contributions as an instructor at the University of California at Davis, as a facilitator of professional development courses worldwide, and as a mentor and advisor through consulting. You always have been willing to give of yourself to generations of students and young engineers and scientists, all of whom have good memories of working with and learning from you. You have always been willing to provide to us a helping hand with hydrology and hydraulic modeling, keeping in mind that solutions to flood management problems must be understandable and affordable. David Ford was invited to participate in the Gilbert F. White National Flood Policy Forum - Is the 1% Chance Flood Standard Sufficient? This first assembly of the forum tackled the question of the sufficiency of the 1% annual chance flood standard, which is the basis for most flood loss reduction programs today, both here and abroad. Probability-based flood standards— including the 1% chance frequency—underlie most floodplain management programs at all levels of government today.
