We developed a real-time flood inundation mapping system (RTFIM) that integrates (a) watershed models (SWMM) and channel models (HEC-2 and HEC-RAS) developed for drainage studies in Fort Collins; (b) real-time data collected by the City's ALERT system; (c) topographic data in GIS format; and (d) aerial photographs and other GIS coverages that show vulnerable property and people. The result is a system capable of forecasting future stage and generating and displaying maps of potentially inundated areas. The image below is an example. This permits emergency managers to respond quickly to flood threats. The RTFIM system uses
Aviso FS and is fully integrated with
Aviso Watch.
