Property in the Nancy and Peachtree Creeks watershed in metropolitan Atlanta has been damaged repeatedly by flood waters. However, the highly developed nature of the watershed and the environmental sensitivity of the riparian area make structural flood damage reduction solutions difficult to implement.

We designed a flood warning system for the watershed and prepared a report to support recommendations in a Corps feasibility study of the watershed. Our report suggests the configuration of all components of the system, including the data collection and transmission system; the data filing, displaying, and disseminating system; the vulnerability analysis and threat recognition system; the forecast models; and the warning dissemination system. We provided a detailed description of sites for the gages and system base stations. We estimated the economic benefits and the cost of the system.
