These account for uncertainties in the data, models, and performance of constructed components.</div> <div> Scientific advances and computer technology improvements now make possible a more rigorous accounting and analysis of the impacts of uncertainty. Accordingly, the Corps adopted new analysis procedures--procedures that included models of the uncertainty about  hydrologic, hydraulic, and economic inputs and analyses. But as with any new procedures, this shift created a need for explanation and guidance.</div> </tD> </tR> <tR> <tD VALIGN=TOP COLSPAN=3 BGCOLOR=#339933 HEIGHT= 16 WIDTH="537"><div> <B>Action</B></div> </tD> </tR> <tR> <tD VALIGN=TOP COLSPAN=3 HEIGHT= 187 WIDTH="537"><div> We prepared a draft of Corps of Engineers' Engineering Manual (EM) 1110-2-1619. This defines procedures for risk-based analysis for flood-damage reduction studies. Our goal was to develop a document that was technically correct, but usable by and useful for hydrologic engineers in Corps' field offices. </div> <div> We wrote the text, developed illustrating examples of the analysis, drafted figures, and prepared a document ready for Corps-wide distribution.</div> <div> You can download a copy of this EM from the <A HREF="http://www.usace.army.mil/inet/usace-docs/eng-manuals/cecw.htm" target="_blank" TARGET="_top" TITLE="http://www.usace.army.mil/inet/usace-doc"><U>Corps' Headquarters Web site</U></A>. </div> <div> We subsequently have had to "eat our own cooking," as we have been called upon by the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA) to conduct R&U analyses of proposed levee projects using the procedures in this EM. </div> </tD> </tR> </TABLE></B></div> <bR> <bR> <bR> </td> </tr></table></body>
