The primary consultant on the project asked David Ford Consulting Engineers Inc. to assist in the collection of data, establish the design criteria, conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for Laguna Creek and its major tributaries for existing and buildout conditions, and evaluate drainage alternatives to bring the drainage system into compliance with City drainage criteria, all as part of the preparation of the Storm Drainage Master Plan.
We conducted hydrologic analyses for existing and buildout conditions for Laguna Creek and its major tributaries using a watershed model to transform design rainfall over a given area to runoff hydrographs. Multiple SacCalc projects were required to correctly define the design storms for the subbasins contributing at key locations. Contributing basin areas were routed through the Laguna Creek watershed using the HEC-RAS model. We then used an unsteady-flow hydraulics model to route flows through the stream network and exported the results from RAS to GIS for the creation of floodplain maps.
The results of these investigations were used to evaluate drainage alternatives.
